Crossbows

Above are 'Light' Crossbows.  These have steel bows, but wood bows are common too. They require the user to place his foot in the stirrup while he pulls back on the bow string.  This is by far the most common style of crossbow in Velitrium and is used for hunting and defense by most common folk.  An example can be found in virtually every cottage and house in Velitrium.

Note:  A Crossbow of YOUR Strength or less requires 2 seconds to cock
A Crossbow with a Strength of 1 or 2 greater then YOU requires 6 seconds to cock.
A Crossbow with a Strength of 8 or better is always made with a steel bow.

This is a 'Medium' crossbow. It employs a Goats Foot to cock it.  These are most commonly used by soldiers, and big game hunters. It always has a steel bow.
Note: A Crossbow with a Strength of 3 or 4 greater then YOU requires a Goats Foot and  20 seconds to cock.

This is a 'Heavy' crossbow, also called a 'Siege Bow.'  It is most commonly used in defense of fixed posistions are in prosecuting a siege.  The bow is always of steel. Note the windlass used to cock the weapon.
Note: A Crossbow with a Strength of of more than 4 greater then YOU requires a Windlass and  60 seconds to cock.

Bolts

An array of bolt tips.  There are a variety of types available.  Blunt bolts are sometimes used for hunting small game, so as not to mangle the meat. Broad tip are used for larger game and unarmored opponents. Bodkins are used against armored targets.  Some bolts use feathers for fletching, others use stiff parchment.

A Special Note:

Copying the Velitar's success with crossbows, some Jhensari tribes have adapted them for their own use. In some cases these are obtained by trade or plunder, but the Jhensari do make a light variation of their own.
