Though very common in many parts of the world they are actually fairly rare around Velitrium. Rumor has it that they were brought to the area by the Arch Mage Grimner and that virtualy all the Orcs in Khun Dagra swear allegience to him. Vastly out numbered by the Goblins, Orcs owe their survival to Grimner's protection. The Orc tribe, 'Yss-Graf Kuhl' which roughly translates as 'Razor Toothed' has enslaved hundreds of Kobolds which they use as labor, cannon fodder in battle, and food when it strikes their fancy.
As tall as a man they are generally stronger and bulkier. Their face is variously described as `beast like' or `pig like' and they have inch long tusks protruding upwards from their lower jaws. Equally comfortable above or below ground, they have excellent night vision and an acute sense of smell. It is a fact, however abhorrant it may be, that humans and orcs can mate and produce viable offspring.
Orcs favor scale armor and scimitars as their preferred armor and weapons. They are slave takers and raiders. They organize well and they govern themselves through Chieftains and war councils. They seem to settle into an area and make it home, building settlements that are multileveled above and below ground.
One last quirk about Orcs. They absolutely hate and despise Elves and all things Elvish. The feeling is mutual as far as the elves are concerned.
A diminutive race of leather skinned, egg laying humanoids. The average Kobold stands about three feet high, has short horns on his head, needle sharp fangs and a tail. Their thick skin is practicly a natural armor and other than shields they use very little else in the way of armor. Subterranean in nature they dislike bright sunlight and will only venture out at night or on cloudy days unless compelled by a strong motivation.
Principal weapons for Kobolds are spears, slings, nets and curved single edged short swords similar to Falchions.
Kobolds are probably the weakest and stupidist of the humanoid races inhabiting the area. They manufacture very little, prefering to steal or trade for what they need, they prefer to occupy someone elses home rather than build their own and they seem to be easily swayed by charismatic or powerful human leaders. The Kobolds dwelling in Khun Dagra are reputedly in the service of Treldar and, or, the Black Tower. Many hundreds are held in bondage by the Orc's of Grimner.
Found in both mountain ranges and in Khun Dagra. Fortunately they are rare and solitary for the most part and not very bright. Giants range in height from twelve to eighteen feet. They are immensely strong and incredibly hard to kill. They tend to dwell alone or in very small groups with little contact with others of their kind. There is one Giant, by the name of Glooma, who with Treldar's aid has declared himself `King of the Giants'. It is unknown as to how seriously the other giants regard this.
Giants make very little. Their armor generally consists of bits and pieces of old mail sewn to a thick layer of bull hide and other skins. Their weapons are generally clubs, rocks and crude spears. Though there are reports that Glooma has access to proper armor and weapons from the Scarlet Cult. It is not uncommon for Giants to work as mercenaries for Goblin bands.
These nightmares are found in and around the Palood and in the mountains. They appear able to live anywhere and eat anything. They are voraciously hungry and will attack on sight. Though generally solitary there have been sightings of packs hunting together.
Seven to eight feet tall these long nosed and lanky creatures have a rubbery, green mottled skin. They have long fangs and heavy claws. Their vision is adequate but their sense of smell is said to be remarkable. What makes them truly horrible is their ability to regenerate injury and to continue fighting even when hacked to bits. The pieces of a troll will slither back together and reform in less than a minute. If prevented from doing so then each piece will regrow a complete new Troll in less than a day.
Trolls use no weapons or armor and it is a matter of debate as to whether they have any intelligence to speak of.
They can be communicated with however and they have been known to serve the Scarlet Cult and it's allies.
It is debated by many scholars as to whether these are a race at all or rather the progeny of some interaction between Giants and Goblins. They seem closely related to Goblins but they range from eight to ten feet in height. They are extremely strong but somewhat dull witted.
They are easily led and generally serve as mercenaries to the Goblins, Orcs and even the Kobolds. They employ any armor or weapon that they can lay their hands on and it is said that they enjoy eating captives.
As mentioned earlier these were the servants of `The Lady' the sorceress that controlled a large portion of the Desert of Nygg. Many were slain when she was defeated but some survived. Today they live in small nomadic bands to the west of Velitrium along the edge of the desert and the Monoliath mountains. They are very rare but are considered by most scholars as being very dangerous.
They have canine like faces and a fur covered body. They make and employ tools and weapons and domesticate animals, especialy wolves and other canines. Little more is known since contact has been somewhat limited. It is widely held that they do not originate from this world.
Regarded by many as a myth despite repeated assurances by Duke Demetrius and his friends that they are real. The `Swamp Ghost' as they are called by disbelievers is said to be a mansized bipedal amphibian or reptile that dwells deep in the Palood. For years there have been occaisional sightings of these solitary creatures and they are blamed by trappers for empty trap lines and farmers for missing livestock. Demetrius and his associates claim to have at one time discovered a crude village of mud and straw huts occupied by scores of these creatures and to have engaged in a savage battle with the creatures. Later investigation, which was delayed by the Great Rebellion, revealed that the village was occupied by Kobolds. Since that reported incident over thirty years ago there has been no other encounter with the creatures.
